China unveils Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics medal designs
The organizing committee of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing on Tuesday unveiled the design of the Olympic and Paralympic medals.
On the obverse of the medals, the logo of the five Olympic rings is engraved, and around it is the full name of the games in English. The emblem of the Games is engraved in the center of the back of the medals, as well as the full name of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics in Chinese.
The back is also decorated with rings with 24 points, which symbolizes “endless starry sky” and “harmony between man and nature”, as well as the serial number of the games (XXIV).
The medal box is crafted from bamboo, “highlighting the characteristics of Chinese culture and in line with the concept of a sustainable Olympic Games,” the organizers said.
The XXIV Winter Olympic Games will be held in Beijing on February 4-20, the Paralympic Games on March 4-13.
The capital of China was selected to host the Olympics at the IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur on July 31, 2015. Beijing will be the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Games.
The Summer Olympics were held in the capital of China in 2008.
