A janitor who worked at the home of Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz was arrested on suspicion of spying for Iran, the Shabak Jewish State’s General Security Service said.
“As part of the joint activities of the General Security Service and the Israeli Police in November 2021, Israeli citizen Omri Goren, who worked around the house and cleaned from the Minister of Defense, was arrested for interrogation. one of the social networks contacted an organization related to Iran and offered assistance in various ways, given his presence in the minister’s house, ”the ministry said in a statement.
In particular, according to the investigation, the cleaner suggested installing malicious software on Gantz’s computers. As proof of the seriousness of his intentions and capabilities, the suspect sent photographs of various rooms in the minister’s house, including a picture of Gantz’s computer.
The Shabak emphasizes that no damage was done to state secrets, since Omri Goren did not have access to important information of state importance. The Prosecutor’s Office of the Central District sent the indictment to the District Court of the city of Loda. The investigation was carried out with the knowledge of the Minister of Defense. Along with the investigation, the Shabak intends to develop a set of measures to prevent such cases.
